Job profile – Sr. Staff Engineer for Security and Functional Safety Validation, Automotive

SoCs

You will be responsible for endtoend validation of Security and Functional Safety (FuSa)

features for Renesas RCar automotive SoCs. The role focuses on validating secure boot,

cryptographic services, safety mechanisms, and systemlevel robustness across Linux, QNX,

Android and RTOS environments on heterogeneous multicore SoCs.

You will work closely with BSP, firmware, hardware, and safety/security architecture teams to

ensure productionready, auditcompliant platforms for nextgeneration IVI, ADAS, and fusion

products.

• Relevant working experience

 Strong systemlevel understanding of secure boot and firmware architecture, QM vs

safety domain partitioning, and multicore heterogeneous SoC behaviour

 Handson experience in Security and Functional Safety (FuSa) validation for

automotive SoCs

 Strong understanding of secure boot, cryptography, and ISO 26262 safety concepts

 Validation of X5H secure boot chain (BootROM → IPL → TFA → OPTEE → OS)

Validation of RSIPM / RSIPE (HSM) including key provisioning, lifecycle states, and

hardware crypto

 Validation of OPTEE and Trusted Applications, including secure storage (RPMB on

UFS/eMMC)

 Execution of negative, robustness, and tamper testing (authentication failures,

corrupted images)

 Validation of secure firmware loading across Acore, Rcore, SCP, and Safety Island

 Validation of ISO 26262 safety mechanisms targeting ASILB / ASILD

Validation of startup tests (LBIST, memory tests, watchdogs), ECC, and E2E

protection

 Safety Island boot and runtime validation

 Fault injection and failuremode testing with analysis of fault detection and reaction

paths

 Systemlevel validation on Linux (Yocto BSP), QNX Hypervisor, and RTOS /

SafeRTOS / FreeRTOS

 System integration validation across heterogeneous multicore SoCs, ensuring correct

partitioning between QM and safety domains

 Debugging and analysis of boot failures, safety events, and security violations using

logs and lowlevel traces

 Development and execution of systemlevel validation plans, test cases, automation,

and reports

 Contribution to security and safety validation evidence for internal reviews and

customer audits

 Handson experience with Git/Gerrit, Yocto build systems, JTAG and systemlevel

debugging tools, and security and functional safety validation tooling such as fault

injection and negative testing.

• Education and Background

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electronics or Computer Science

• 8+ years of handson experience in automotive security and/or functional safety

software development or validation on embedded platforms including Linux, QNX,

Android, Zephyr, and FreeRTOS

• Expected role in Renesas

• Own and execute security and safety validation for X5H Gen5 platforms

• Deliver validation reports and evidence for internal and customer audits

• Work closely with global teams to enable productionready SDKs and platforms

• Support customer enablement and issue resolution

• Relevant Experiences (Combination of good-to-have and must-have):

 Overall:

 Relevant industry experience in embedded software development with a

proven track record in translating complex use cases requirements into

design, system specifications, standards, and software solutions. Focus shall

be on open source software.

 Ability to work independently with strong motivation towards meeting

deadlines with efficiency and focus

 Architecture

 System architecture experience for heterogeneous / multi-core embedded

SoC computing platforms.

 Development

 Embedded system software development experience including low level

firmware, kernel, and user space components on an SoC product comparable

to the Renesas R-Car family

 Ability to develop and debug on both real hardware as well as simulation and

emulation environments

 Debug:

 Ability to debug complex system level use cases involving hardware and

software elements such as bandwidth/QoS knobs.

 Software debugging including CLI, PCB, and application-level debug

techniques

 Ability to debug high speed communication interfaces including HW/SW co-

debug

 Collaboration:

 Ability to collaborate with sales, marketing, architecture, customer, partners,

and other groups to create best in class reference solutions, solve problems,

and enable customer success

 Ability to expand upon existing solutions in collaboration with architects and

prior design teams

 Ability to work independently as well as in small teams

 Communication:

 Excellent written and verbal communication due to frequent customer and

internal communications; ability to provide direct, efficient, and clear customer

communications under pressure

 Familiarity with global business cultures (Japan, Europe, US, India) and

strong cross-cultural sensitivity

 Familiarity with verbal and written Japanese (nice to have)

 Travel:

 Flexibility to manage occasional international travel on short notice to support

customer success or internal initiatives
