Patent Analyst

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Patent Analyst to join our Global Patent Team based in Mumbai. This
role is ideal for a professional with strong expertise in patent searching and analytics, particularly
within the medical domain.
The candidate will play a critical role in supporting global patent strategy, freedom-to-operate (FTO)
assessments, and competitive intelligence, working closely with patent attorneys and cross-functional
stakeholders across multiple geographies.
In addition to core IP responsibilities, the role may involve contributing to custom data-driven and
data science-oriented projects, aimed at enhancing patent intelligence, automation, and decision-
making capabilities.
Scope & Key Responsibilities
• Partner with global Patent Attorneys, and key stakeholders to deliver high-quality patent
intelligence and decision-ready analyses that support strategic business and IP decisions
• Act as a strategic liaison between the Global Patent Team and business stakeholders on IP-
related matters, helping translate complex patent insights into practical guidance
• Conduct patent searches including Patentability searches, Freedom-to-operate (FTO)
searches, Validity/invalidity searches, State-of-the-art and landscape analyses
• Develop and execute advanced search strategies across patent and non-patent literature
databases
• Support global Patent Attorneys in FTO assessments and risk evaluation across key
jurisdictions
• Perform technology landscape, white space, and competitive intelligence analyses in the
medical devices/systems domain
• Monitor competitor portfolios, filing trends, and prosecution activities globally
• Translate complex patent findings into clear, business-relevant insights and recommendations
• Support patent drafting, prosecution and post grant activities for US and Indian patents,
including coordination with internal stakeholders and external counsel as needed

• Build and maintain data dashboards and visualizations (Power BI/Tableau) for patent
intelligence and reporting
• Handle and analyze large patent datasets, ensuring structured and meaningful outputs
• Contribute to custom analytics / data science initiatives, such as:
o Search optimization and automation workflows
o Insight generation using structured and unstructured datasets
o Contribute to IP due diligence, portfolio analysis, and strategic IP initiatives
Technical Competencies / Skills & Experience
• 6+ years of core experience in patent searching and analytics
• Experience working in-house, preferably in a medical devices company
• Strong technical background with the ability to quickly grasp cutting-edge technologies across
medical sector
• Demonstrated expertise in advanced patent search methodologies and query building
• Strong experience in:
o Patent databases (e.g., Derwent, Orbit, Patsnap, Espacenet, Google Patents, etc.)
o Scientific literature databases
• Proven capability in conducting Patentability, FTO, invalidity, Technology landscaping and
white space analysis
• Experience in medical devices, medical systems, or related engineering domains (strongly
preferred)
• Knowledge of patent laws and prosecution processes, especially in India; familiarity with
US/EP/CN patent laws would be an advantage
• Familiarity with the US and India patent drafting and prosecution exposure is a plus
• Experience with data analytics and visualization tools:
o Power BI / Tableau
o Handling large datasets (Excel, CSV, database exports)
• Exposure to data science or advanced analytics projects, especially in IP domains would be
preferred
Qualifications
• Degree in Mechanical/ Electronics/ Biomedical Engineering or related field
• Registered Indian Patent Agent – preferred, not mandatory
• Additional qualifications such as:
o LLB / PG Diploma in IP Law (preferred)

o Certification in Data Analytics/Data Science (nice to have)

Work Arrangement
• Hybrid Role: Minimum 3 days/week in Mumbai office
• Flexibility to collaborate across global time zones as needed
